Purposeful Parapraxis
Climbing the Walls Tonight

And not in the rock climbing way. I’ve done a little writing, though, so that’s good.

That sounds delicious

I agree it’s a pretty douchey thing to say but I don’t see where “expecting” comes from.

See below.

fyeahbritishpeople:

If you weren’t expecting something more, why were you trying to move in that direction in the first place.

Again, there is no “in the first place”. If you ever think to yourself “damn it, I’ve been put in the friend zone” (which is probably orders of magnitude more coherent than it will actually happen), it’s only because at one point previously, you thought “hey, this person is attractive. Maybe if I stay friends with them, one day they will want to date/fuck me.”

And that’s objectifying. It is being friends with someone only because you find them attractive.

It’s not wrong to want to mean more to someone. It’s something you feel, and you can’t help what your emotions do. There are lots of friendships that get rocky because someone fell in love with their friend who didn’t feel the same way. That doesn’t mean that the person who fell in love had ~evil designs~ or that they had a self-centered intent.

Accidents happen. People fall in love with people who don’t love them back, at least not romantically. Yeah, it’s a douchey thing to say, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to punish a person for having feelings.

IDK.

I actually happen to agree with you, for reasons that are fairly obvious to those who look for them. “Accidents” happen, though I doubt calling them accidents is in good form. Sometimes people fall in love with, or at least become attracted to (a distinction I shall not pursue right now), other people who do not return the feelings. In fact, it happens quite a lot. But the idea of the “friend zone” is, as of this writing, an inherently negative one. And that’s the problem.

If it was just “hey, this person doesn’t like me back”, we could all deal with it and move on. The problem is that it becomes “this person doesn’t like me back, and that’s terrible, and it’s their fault for not giving me a chance”, and that is what Lee called the “douchebag zone”. (I’m all for this renaming, by the way.)

Again, let’s reclaim it and make “friend zone” a neutral and superfluous term. But we can’t call it what it has not been.

I don’t know what to make of it, to be honest. Is it really something we should take that seriously? Everyone acts like it’s a widespread thing but I’ve only ever seen the term in posts like these, where someone complains about how widespread it’s use it is and how much it sucks. I’ve never heard it used in the real world or seen it on the internet in an unironic context.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t used unironically, I just haven’t seen it until George posted about it. But I’ve also been on the internet for over ten years. It’s hard to take it seriously.

Unfortunately, I have seen it, quite a lot. (I suppose the fact that I am forced to exist in close proximity to many people who are my philosophical opposites has something to do with it.)

Also I try to take everything seriously to avoid having to deal with the many, many flaws in my own psyche.

I’m friendzoning everyone on tumblr.

Hey guys… I just started watching the modern day Sherlock series. So cool!

… there’s a sequel.

For those of you reading “A World of Laughter, A World of Tears”, there’s a sequel. When You Wish Upon a Star…

It’s still in development, from what I can tell.

For those of you reading A World of Laughter…

It’s totes puppies and sunshine and rainbows later on.
